A-Class ECU & Air Mass/Flow Meter
Mercedes A-Class ECU & Air Mass Meter The ECU is a very common problem for the Mercedes A-Class, causes fault codes blaming the air mass meter and can cause poor idle speed and rough running. These ECU / AFM are expensive from the main dealer - we can rebuild your own ECU for a fraction of the price. When we rebuild your unit we program all of the adaptation values on the vehicle, you will not need to have any programming or adjustment work done after fitting your unit back to the vehicle.
Common faults include: Air Mass/Flow Meter fault codes Rough or erratic idle speed Poor MPG Flat spots & hesitations.
We offer a considerably cheaper and more reliable alternative to buying OEM replacement parts. This is because OEM replacement parts will generally retain the same inherent faults that caused them to fail in the first place.

Diesel Particulate Filter
The diesel particulate filter systems on these engines are poorly designed and prone to serious, ongoing problems. The diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device designed to remove soot from the exhaust gas of the diesel engine. However, diesel particulate filters must be cleaned from time to time or they will block up. Typical warning messages include: DPF light flashing or staying on and/or engine management light flashing or staying on. The particulate filter needs to be regularly cleaned or it will clog and stop working. The more clogged the filter becomes; the more difficult it is to clean. When the engine computer (ECU) detects that the filter is more than 45% clogged it brings on the warning lights on the dash to indicate that the DPF needs cleaning.
A noticeable drop in engine performance will occur once this warning light comes on.
At that stage, a suitable scan tool with DPF burn off capabilities should be used to do a burn-off which usually cleans the DPF ready for use again.
However, if the DPF is 58% or more blocked, there is a risk of fire if a DPF burn-off is done. Some manufacturers using elaborate software in the car’s ECU will not allow burn-offs to be carried out if this is the case.
This is why the vehicle manufacturers recommend replacing the DPF with a new one. This can be horrendously expensive especially with European cars, for example a 2005 Audi V8 runs TWO DPF’s and they cost $2800 each! Then the labour to fit the new DPF can also be very expensive
At Car Computers NZ, we have available a special process to clean these filters once they get to the throw away stage. Simple send us the DPF filter and we will clean it out using our special process and chemicals to make it like new again.
Cost varies on the application, but just as an example, a Suzuki Vitara 2004 DPF costs $350 plus GST which makes it far more attractive than buying a new one.

Mitsubishi GDI engines
Fuel delivery is another difference for the GDI, there is a standard type electric fuel pump immersed in the fuel tank just like most other fuel injected cars, but this pump instead of delivering fuel to the injectors, delivers it to a mechanical pump on the side of the engine which then increases the pressure from 45psi to approx 750psi and that is the pressure that is delivered to the injectors. We'll cover injector pulsers, fuel rail pressure transducer for scopes and Graphing meter, oscilloscope, solenoid pulser, duty-cycle controller. Then give you the correct diagnosis.
Air mass (air) flow sensor (MAF)
The air mass information is necessary for the engine control unit (ECU) to balance and deliver the correct fuel mass to the engine. Air changes its density as it expands and contracts with temperature and pressure. In automotive applications, air density varies with the ambient temperature, altitude and the use of forced induction, which means that mass flow sensors are more appropriate than volumetric flow sensors for determining the quantity of intake air in each cylinder.
In order to ensure that legal specifications for emissions are complied with and that the vehicle is not consuming fuel unnecessarily, air and fuel must be fed through the engine in a precisely defined ratio. This takes place by means of an air-mass meter or air flow sensor which detects the actual air-mass flow and transmits the measured values to the regulating and control systems of the engine.
Every new car, and most cars produced after 1980, have an oxygen sensor. The sensor is part of the emissions control system and feeds data to the engine management computer. The goal of the sensor is to help the engine run as efficiently as possible and also to produce as few emissions as possible.
